I'm sorry you had to go through this experience but am grateful to hear he is on the mend. I'm sure with a Mom such as yourself taking care of him with the unconditional love you have written here, he will be well in no time at all. I know how painful a sick pet can be for us. I'm currently going through the same with my girl (a cat) who I've had since she was born. But the word "give up" is not in my vocabulary & so far she's doing better. All the best to you and your fur babies.

Sounds like you and Riddle were meant for each other. Our special fur babies touch a very special place in our hearts! So glad to hear that you have a plan for Riddle, although sorry he can't enjoy walkies for a while. 🤗🩵

I'm so sorry for you and your pup. I have been owned by several Beagles over the years. They are prone to herniated discs and IVDD. Hopefully he makes a full recovery with minimal pain.

I’m hoping so too. This is one of the hardest experiences we’ve been through together. I’m trying to control his pain and keep him sedated enough to allow him to heal. Similar to when I broke my leg. The intensity of the moments is quiet and unsettling at the same time

That's the problem with love.

It makes you strong to endure.

But it also leaves your heart exposed.

Cats?

Dogs?

Other critters?

There's varying degrees of love and you gotta decide if you can live with the sour offsetting the sweet.

Thank you for sharing. A pet is a family member and comes with a lot of joy but also a lot of heartache. So relieved he is still alive. I was worried. Your story is a nail biter!

Dr. Amber Hull's avatar

I’m still kind of biting my nails. It’s a one-day-at-a-time situation right now

Oh how hard for both of you! I’m so glad you now know how go treat it and I’m hopeful for a full recovery for Dobby.

Dr. Amber Hull's avatar

Dobby is my younger beagle. He’s healthy m. He’s been surprisingly gentle with Riddle as we try to recover him from injury

Lisa League's avatar

Glad they have each other, too!

Great story.

Such a good boy. I wonder if he’d like stroller rides…

Dr. Amber Hull's avatar

I thought about that but he’s on strict crate rest for now. The neurologist was adamant about limiting activity

I couldn’t make it to the end. I didn’t want to cry on my phone.

Much love, Amber & Riddle (& brother)

A sick or injured pet is absolutely heart wrenching. I’m so glad that recovery is in his future.

❤️

I’m hoping for recovery. We’re definitely in the weeds at the moment

Aww, poor baby! That nerve pain is wicked. I'm so glad he is improving. I'm sure you are both exhausted. Take care 💜

I lost my Sophie 2 days ago. Working this weekend as I am the on call MD … no one is waiting for me at home….. she did for 8 years and I am grateful for her being in this dimension.

My deepest condolences on your loss. It’s an extraordinary kind of pain to lose a pet

I share so many of your feelings as I navigate life with my 15-year-old fur boy!

But I believe that Tylenol is toxic for dogs. Works great for my knees, though!

Dr. Amber Hull's avatar

Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol. The vet sent us home with a prescription for acetaminophen so it’s definitely not toxic for dogs.

Joyce Johnston's avatar

I stand corrected! The toxicity warnings come from the very narrow safety margins for dogs— safe only if dose is calculated by vet for the specific dog.

Thanks for the correction and best wishes for you and your sweet pup!
